Auburn, Alabama Breast Augmentation or Breast Enlargement
Breast augmentation (also called breast enhancement or breast enlargement) is a surgical cosmetic procedure that uses breast implants to fulfill your desire for fuller breasts or to restore breast volume that is lost following pregnancy or weight loss. If you are like many women who are dissatisfied with their breast size, breast augmentation can increase breast fullness and projection, add balance to your figure and potentially enhance your level of self-confidence.
Breast Augmentation Options
The incision for your breast augmentation procedure and where the breast implants will be placed is determined during your consultation. Along with your style of breast implants, these important decisions will be made by you and your board-certified plastic surgeon at Hedden Plastic Surgery.
The four main types of incisions are Inframammary Fold Incision (beneath the breast), Peri-Areolar Incision (around the nipple), Transaxillary Incision (in the armpit) and Transumbilical Incision (at the upper rim of the belly button). Incisions for saline breast implants are usually only an inch long because each implant is rolled up and inserted through the incision before being filled with sterile saline. Incisions for silicone breast implants are usually longer because the implants are pre-filled with silicone gel.
After the incision is made, breast implants are placed behind the breasts to expand the contour of the breast tissues. The implants can be placed over the pectoralis muscle (Subglandular), partially under the muscle (Partial Submuscular) or completely under the muscle (Full Submuscular). The subglandular placement tends to create a more distinct cleavage and rounded appearance, while the partial and full submuscular placements are usually less rounded and may provide a more natural breast shape, especially in the upper portion of the breasts.
Transumbilical Breast Augmentation
Transumbilical Breast Augmentation (TUBA) is an innovative endoscopic surgery technique that is used to enhance the size and shape of the breasts with saline breast implants. The TUBA procedure uses a small incision at the rim of the belly button to tunnel the breast implants to each breast, after which they are filled with saline solution to expand the breast contour.
TUBA is actually the least invasive breast augmentation technique. Most women experience minor discomfort only and can resume their normal activities quickly. Often called "scarless breast augmentation," TUBA leaves only a tiny scar at the upper rim of the navel and does not leave scars in the area of the breasts.
